Thanks to everyone who came out to the packed theater at Connecticut College for our screening of A Wheel out of Kilter last night! We were joined by Kyle Clark (composer and assistant editor) for an hour long Q&A after the film. Faculty, staff, students, friends, family, and even the President of the College and her husband were in attendance. It was an awesome night - thanks for coming out and making last night such a meaningful experience.
Only year ago, A Wheel out of Kilter premiered at its first film festival, the Princeton Independent Film Festival. As fate would have it, today Princeton announced that Wheel's prequel, Deadpoint, was accepted! The film will screen on September 30, 2016. We are thrilled to be returning to Princeton with this film. Thanks, Sara, and the rest of the Prindiefest team!
My newest film is complete! This weekend I submitted the final cut of A Peculiar Thud to Damnationland. What a joy it has been making this film together. Our editor, Brian Newell, did an absolutely outstanding job cutting the film. It could not have been done without him, and it would not have been as good a film without him. Thanks to my friend, Brian! Meanwhile, Damnationland's promotion work is getting up and running. Check out the pictures, interviews, etc on their site. Damnationland. Below, I'm wielding the machete from the film amidst my fellow Damnationland filmmakers. And here are a few stills from the film-
The UFVA conference in Vegas was a blast! The A Wheel out of Kilter screening was excellent and I was proud to be a part of an awesome panel with rockstars like Jon Cavallero from Bates College, David Coon from University of Washington Tacoma, and Lauren DeCarvalho from University of Arkansas.
You can read more about it on Kiltered Production's blog. I'm in Las Vegas for the 2016 University Film and Video Association conference where I'll be meeting other filmmakers and academics, networking with other production companies, and sharing my work with their colleagues and friends from across the country. I'm here with my Kiltered Productions partner, Matt Herbertz, and we're going to be busy this week!
Today, Aug 1, I'll be screening A Wheel out of Kilter in Screening 3A at 2:30pm. On Aug 2, I'll be delivering my paper, "Teaching Racist, Sexist Student Films in the Production Classroom: Fighting Fire With Fire" in Panel 5G at 9:30am. On Aug 3, we will be screening A Man of God in Screening 9B at 9:30am. On Aug 4, Matt will be delivering his paper, "Modern Rural Horror and Male Anxiety: The Fear of Losing Power" in Panel 13G at 9:30am. At about 4:30am on Sunday July 17, we wrapped shooting A Peculiar Thud! It was an incredible experience and yielded footage that has left me breathless. Matt Herbertz led a cinematography team to reproduce the feel of darkness on a moonlit night - and the fear that someone could be lurking in any of the shadows. Malcolm Mills' performance as the lead was absolutely outstanding. The entire production was a well-oiled and efficient machine. I've been making films for 20 years now; this was likely the best production I've ever run. Clockwise from left: Lindsay Sirois (Sound), Gregg Hammond (Catering), RJ Wilson (Grip, Damnationland Producer), Malcolm Mills (lead actor), Tom Digges (Assistant Camera), Kyle Clark (Gaffer), Matt Herbertz (Director of Photography, Producer), Ross Morin (Writer, Director, Producer), Stuart Vyse (Assistant Director)
A few pictures below will give you a taste of what the film will look and feel like - they are just a mere hint of the actual quality of the cinematography. They have not been color corrected or touched up but I'm including them so that you can get as excited as we all are. I'm so proud of my team.
